What can be borrowed?
Students can borrow items during opening hours with a Learning Commons Pass they get from their teacher. Some classes have a designated weekly time to visit the learning commons as well.
Teachers, Staff, and Grade 4, 5 6 students may use self-checkout.
Outside of opening hours, students may sign out books when accompanied by a teacher. Items may be checked out using the self-checkout or by recording check-out information in the Blue Book kept on the Circulation Desk. You will need to record the date, borrower name and classroom number (if applicable), title of book and barcode.
What is Self-Checkout?
The Self-checkout station is located near the Circulation desk in the library and it allows library users to checkout and renew library books themselves. It is available to adults and to students in grades 4-6.
To use it, library users will need to know their ID.
How many items may be borrowed at once?
To view what items you have checked out, go to the e-Library catalogue.
Log in with your CBE username and password and click on My Account – Review my account.
Students and adults who have access to self-checkout can see what they have checked out on the Checkout screen after entering their ID.
How do I place a hold?
Holds may be placed at the circulation desk on materials that are currently checked out to someone else. When the item is returned, the item will be set aside for the next person on the hold list for that item.

- Kindergarten Students may borrow 1 item
- Grade 1-3
- 2 items at a time
- Up to 3 additional items for school projects
- Grade 4-6
- 5 items at a time if student has no overdues
- Only 2 items at a time may be renewed
- 5 items at a time if student has no overdues
- Loan period is 2 weeks
- Items may be renewed up to 2 times if item is not on hold for someone else

- Up to 2 holds may be placed at a time
- Item will be held for up to 2 weeks at circulation desk
- Pick up item at circulation desk
- After 2 weeks, if not picked up hold will be removed
How do returns work?
- Place item(s) you wish to return on the return cart in library
- Must return a book before another may be checked out
- Return books clean, dry, whole and happy!

What happens if I lose or damage a library book?
- We trust borrowers will keep items clean, dry, whole and happy.
- However, if an item does get damaged, let the Library Assistant know.
- Some damage, such as small tears, may be repaired, but if the item has got wet or dirty, the book cannot be added back into the library collection.
- In this case, a notice will be sent home that gives the replacement cost of the item that must be paid. If this causes financial hardship, please notify the office.
